My love letter to cosplay | Adam Savage

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)

Adam Savage makes things and builds experiments, and he uses costumes to add humor, color and clarity to the stories he tells. Tracing his lifelong love of costumes — from a childhood space helmet made of an ice cream tub to a No-Face costume he wore to Comic-Con — Savage explores the world of cosplay and the meaning it creates for its community. “We’re connecting with something important inside of us,” he says. “The costumes are how we reveal ourselves to each other.”

When he talked about people giving him back the gold coins, I thought for sure that they were cosplaying Chihiro and wanted to stay true to the film

As a girl who stopped cosplaying for a few year… THIS. HITS. ME. HARD. It reminds me of why I loved cosplay when I started 7 years ago

I fucking love cosplay. I remember the time I went to ShutoCon in my hometown, and upon seeing just a few people in costume, I instantly fell under its guise. I met so many fantastic people, from all different genres, movies, games, books, fandoms.. coming together to celebrate a different purpose. I wasn't dressed as anything that day, just had a "Stay Weird" pin, but they took me in as one of their own. That was the best day of my entire life.

it's bad luck to take money from spirits?
but if the coin inside is chocolate, I'll probably take it.

My family and friends get weirded out whenever I tell them I cosplay so I tend to hide it. But now I remember that cosplay is so much more and I shouldn't be so embarrassed doing something I love.

If I ever go to ComiCon, I'm dressing up as Nightlight to see if anyone else knows Guardians of Childhood.

Perhaps I overreacted but I teared up watching this. I have never been able to properly explain why I spend all my time and money for a few hours at comic con until now. His words express the love that envelops the cosplay community. Regardless if its a store bought or hand made costume all cosplayers share a scene of family. So watching this is't like watching a famous Mythbuster talk about an experience, its like hearing a friend portray the love and passion that is shared by all cosplayers.

I've watched this talk multiple times, and this time I'm watching it is the first time that I have chills. Adam is such a delightful speaker, and he delivered this talk with humor and an immense skill.

So 20 years old, and in a little under 2 weeks at the time of writing this I'm going to my local comic expo (second con I've been too) as my first cosplay and switching it up a little by going as one of my own characters from one of the rpg games I play.

you know what i hate about Cosplay ? everyone has great costumes , only the one i have usually sucks ( like on saturday , i have even seen a WoW Ork , a Masterchief , a great Sasuke Uchiha crossplay ( girl cosplaying as male pre Shippuden Sasuke) and i only had a cheap ( 25€ white wig a plastic leather jacket and an orange T-Shirt ( others did recognize my character being Soul Evans from Soul Eater but imo my costume was one of the worst
