Back in 1974, my 8th grade had a talent show at the end of the year. These two girls sang Scarborough Fair so beautifully. One girl, Paula, sang Art's part. The other girl, whose name I don't remember, sang Paul's part. Whenever I hear this song I think about that girl Paula. I'm not sure if I fell in love while she was singing, but she sure touched my heart.

BUT, BOY DID THE YOUTH ENJOY THE DEPTH OF THE MEANING THAT DRUGS BROUGHT OUT IN THEIR ESTRANGED MUSIC
    COMPARED TO COMMON SENSE MUSIC.
    VERY SEDUCTIVE .

Unfortunately my english is too bad to understand everything in the song. But that is not important, because much is subject to the lyrical and creative freedom of artists.
But, and that's for sure, the mood and atmosphere the song transports can break hearts and make tears run down the cheeks.

I have a vivid memory of hearing this as a small child in the early 1970s, and I found it really haunting, and still do. I can now appreciate the beauty of the song, but there is something about the melody and chord structure that I found (indeed still find) unsettling. I think the song conjured up my first ever feeling of melancholy, and that was what disturbed me so much back then.
